  • Very good, Anna.

  • Thank you.  It is the only 2-finger ring in our collection.  We have one with a tiny mosque constructed on the band, and 2 rings from Afghanistan that are very heavy and made in two levels with lots of beautiful calligraphy on them.  The others in our collection are fairly typical of their region.

  • It is especially good because in this culture it is a minority item. Two-finger rings are far more common (and then very large, usually) in Kazakhstan. You also see them elsewhere, but this is the first one from Yemen I can recall coming across.

  • Thank you for that information.  I have wondered which Turkoman region would have influenced the rings we purchased from Afghanistan, heavy, bold, 2-story rings with calligraphy everywhere.  I should have guessed Kazakh, because Kabul was full of old things from that tribe when we lived there.

The small ring with the rosette is light in weight and has the same kind of band that some of my other Yemen rings have.  It is quite different from my Afghan or Turkoman rings.
