  • Some days ago, there were a number of photos of amazing tuareg pendants posted by Eva and Chantal. Thanks so much for those! I had no idea of the diversity of these pendants (amulets?).

This is the only tanfouk I have and admit to knowing nothing about it. Would love to hear your thoughts on provenance or symbolism. Thanks!

  • Very nice one, beautiful silver work! I do not know anyhing special about its symbolism. But I got the famous book we were talking about here (Bijoux touraregs by Jean Burner, Editions du Fournel, Paris) yesterrday, and I will love to study it. If I come across more info about this type of pendant, I will gladly write it down here. The book is focused on the Niger Tuareg, it has fantastic photos and very detailed information. It is really great, (but leaves out Mali and Algeria). Great is, that for each type of Tuareg jewellery the original names are given. Sorry for my detour about the book, but I only got it yesterday evening, and I am quite enthused. At a quick glance, I did not find any explanation about the meaning of this pendant. Perhaps Ait Ouakli can help? If I find it, I come back. In any case, it is a classical Tuareg pendant and like all Tuareg jewellery, it has some protective forces.

  • hi preethi. if you go back to the photos we commanted before, you will find a lot infos about this pendant.

in case it is not enough for you, let me know and i will add then more :-)
