‘Tokalı kemer’ (belt with buckle). Rum (Greek from Anatolia), ca. 1900.

‘Tokalı kemer’ (belt with buckles). Type ‘Asia Minor’ or ‘Cappadocia’ (Greek from Anatolia), late 19th century. With the image of a Christian Saint. Material: Alpaka (nickel silver), a silvery-coloured alloy of 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc. Mounted on a late-20th century silver thread embroidered leather belt. Purchased in Afyon, in 1996. (Inv.nr. müç006 - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium). (SOLD to a Greek folk dance group in Belgium).

Indeed, Peter, I too, in the 27 years (1978-2005) that I toured Turkey and investigated hundreds of (mostly modest) antique shops, never saw another buckle in this style.
