  • Terrific! Am I right in thinking I have not seen this before? (Forgive me if I have.) It's a very good example - and would cost a mint, no doubt. I think of the Metropolitan at its best, or Barbier-Mueller.

  • no I just sold this.  I had one years ago I sold in Paris.

  • A great piece to have had, and a great piece for the buyer to own. I have just commented on the colour of the stones in the other photo, to the effect that as all other colours in the image look spot-on (very natural), it is likely that the blue stones are also blue, in actuality, in which case they simply cannot be emeralds (blue emeralds do not exist). I think that it is unlikely that a trick of photography has turned just the ONE colour into something completely different, so very probably the "emeralds" are a different stone. Not that this matters, except in terms of accuracy. Blue to my mind looks better than green - and I think many would agree - in this context. Nor is the piece any the less good, overall, if the stones are not emeralds. But it would be intriguing to know just what the position is! It is a very "classic" piece, all in all - very recognisable.

  • Stones are green not blue.

  • out of this world!

  • Yes, beautiful... fit for the Gods. There is a picture of a little boy, wearing a tayo like this, dressed as Krishna and taking part in a procession in Kathmandu in the 1980s on page 109 in John Clarke's book 'Jewellery of Tibet and the Himalayas'. It also says the tayo, which is hollow, is a part of Newar ceremonial jewellery (largely for women it seems) which guards against evil spirits. Thanks for showing, Linda.

  • How the green can have turned into a clear blue remains amazing. Eva comments on that matter in a post relating to the other photo of this (showing a detail of the piece).
