Lovely, I like especially the coins. Thanks for the information, nice to know how they were worn. Syrian jewellery is rather rare here.
I have seen very little of Syrian jewelry anywhere -- at least on the web. Seems to be rare all over.
These are interesting. We had a pair that came with a bulk lot of old Central Asian, Turkoman, and Iranian jewelry. I assumed that they were Central Asian, possibly Caucasian as the coins on the bottom were old imperial Russian kopecs.
In fact I bought them in a small town in the center of Syria, Dar-el Zour, but coming back home I found the information and a photograph of these beads in its original set in the book "The Arts and Crafts of Syria" from Johannes Kalter, Thames and Hudson, 1992. I've got 6 which are the same, so I guess they were from the same set, and 2 more smaller and older.
Beautiful made plait jewelry. And a nice big set of 8! I will post my Omani plait jewelry in my Omani album.
It is so nice to compare things, although these do not resemble each other at all.
