The very worn design below the head depicts two fish with crossed tails. This image appears on most of this type. The back of the serpent head also has a design. Here is another view.
These are not worn by many Tunisian women nowadays. Many of these are being re-shaped and made into necklaces and other more "modern" pieces. Serpent head khors may become rare in the near future.
Nice to know about those! I had not seen them before. Lovely inside of the ring too.
Thanks all. FYI the above type of earring appears in Paul Eudel's dictionary. He describes these as being Algerian from Constantine, but they have also been used all over Tunisia from Kef to Djerba. I also have another example in my photos that is a matching set of tiny gold khors. Unfortunately, these are also missing their pearls, but I think it is difficult to find old ones set with their original gems.
