Please post Syrian jewelry

A magnificent silver kirdan necklace from Syria. I would love to see more Syrian jewels posted here. I think it is a great reminder that the people affected by the ongoing tragedy are more than victims, but resilient people from a beautiful culture who will be successful wherever they put down roots. This necklace is made mostly of high grade silver and features many coins from the mid to late 1800s. Like many jewels from the Levant a tremendous amount of care went into making it: every jump ring is soldered and hence the necklace has kept the majority of its many dangles. It has original blue and red glass beads and gray beads around the medallions which I think must be shell and hence of amuletic significance. When the necklace was restrung, matching blue beads and tiny pearls were added. With many thanks to Alaa Eddine Saggid. Please post your Syrian jewelry if you can.

  • Stunning!! And with your lovely long dark hair, it looks fabulous! I love wearing my jewellery, in this age of mass production, exclusivity is such a luxury. I always have compliments. You look lovely, enjoy your beautiful jewels. x
  • Alas Lynn, I have no Syrian jewellery. But the piece you have shown is outstanding and I was so glad to see you wearing it. It looks amazing against the black. It will certainly stir memories of the place it comes from.

  • That is a fantastic piece which not only looks beautiful but also shows the beauty of art and details in crafting with perfection on all its components. This piece being from Syria also registers in our memory what the Syrian heritage has to offer regardless of the current  hardship. Congratulations Lynn for posting this piece, which looks fabulous.

  • A really gorgeous piece Lynn. I just love the Levant jewelry. Congratulations. Peter
