Outdoors and indoors dress. Konya, 19th century.

A well-to-do lady outdoors and indoors. For outdoors (left), she is wrapped in a very large “Bağdad bürgüsü” (‘bürgü’, or ‘ferace’, which is a kind of baggy cloak). This one is made of silk brocade, with tiny golden stars woven into the fabric. Late Ottoman, urban fashion, 19th century.The indoors dress (right) is a festive costume with ‘bindallı entari & cepken’ (embroidered robe and long vest). Late-Ottoman, urban, circa 1800. Adorned with goldwork embroidery on velvet, minuscule golden spirals and small copper sequins. Embroidery technique: ‘sarma’ / ‘Maraş işi’.Both the ‘bürgü’ and the ‘bindallı’ embroidered costume are from Konya. (Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
