Old Southern Morocco pendant

Any info on this piece would be appreciated. It is a bit unusual. It is of a good grade silver.

  • The top is really interesting the way it folds over. Gorgeous piece!

  • Sarah, any input on this one?  Thanks!

  • classical flower pattern from around tiznit , but very old and worn, obviously have traveled south towards the presahara where the top section was added (the bales have surely been lost from original shape), the design of the top section is obviously saharan and is usually present on old fine hair kitabs

coins are probably a later addition from the merchants

Sarah should be able to give helpful insights on cabochons

    lovely pendant

  • I agree with ayis re the reworkings of the piece.
The design to me is western Soussi. Which again falls in line with Ayis' thoughts.
The red glass pieces are very early c 1880 the blue far later c 1950 if you look closely at the blue cabochon the setting is reworked a little crudely...I suspect it was originally also red, maybe changed for fashion, or due to loss damage of the original... I love the story of it's journey and evolution!
