Old genuine mauritanian necklace made with a Morfia flanked by a large garnet and a natural coral beads separated by small glass spacers. Stringed tiny coconut heishi beads and a simple clasp made with a blue glass bead completed the necklace. The morfia looks very weared but full of character and a lovely patina. It has waves of yellow, red, green and grey colours. The perforation is filled (see pictures) with a plastic insert to made it smaller. The necklace mantains the original stringing and traditional beads situation. For further information about these kind of mauritanian necklaces see M. • The blue bead is a faience bead from Iran -- sometimes called a donkey bead.

  • So simple, so much character.

  • Yes, simple, full of character and valuable beads in a simple necklace.

  • Patricia, I don't think the blue bead is faience made unless faience is translucent, which I don't know. This blue bead has some translucency

  • True, these Iranian beads are not translucent -- just looks like a faience bead in the pic I guess

  • Nice!
