Close-up of a traditional bridal costume from the Karakeçeli (Yörük) villages of the Keles district (south of Bursa). Village (rural) style, ca. mid-20th century. Below: the three layers of adorned garments that cover the breast (the jewels were removed, to offer better sight): a ‘gömlek’ (shirt), an ‘iç yelek’ (inner bodice) and a ‘dış yelek’ (outer bodice). Over these three, a fourth garment is worn: the red ‘güdük’ (quilted vest). (Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
