  • Hi Matilda!

Welcome! You probably know already that you`re going to enjoy it here. You`ll learn lots - I have. I think you may well find that this site becomes easily as addictive as buying ethnic jewels.

Re your pretty headdress: Click on Blogs, click on December 2011 and......Presto! If Sarah says it`s Moroccan, it sure as heck is! She will be able to give you more details as to where exactly it`s from. I`m sure she wouldn`t mind a message.

  • Hello Frankie!

Thank you so much for the welcome! Everyone seems very friendly, and well informed. I have a feeling I'll be spending countless hours on here in the future :) It is all so very addictive.

I actually received a message from Sarah already, and she knew exactly where it was from. I will look up that blog from December though.

    Thanks for the reply!

  • Very nice, Matilda! It certainly looks Moroccan to me, but I am not a specialist in the area. The people on this site who, from my reading their contributions regularly, seem to me to know best on what grounds to declare an item as coming from an area in Morocco or not are in general ayis and Sarah, and these are the two I would primarily consult if I had a question to ask about Moroccan jewellery, though there are also others who certainly know more about the subject than I do! Opinions on identification at times differ, however, and none of the people I mention would lay claim to knowing in 100% of instances whether an item is definitely Moroccan or not. There are questions surrounding the origin of certain pieces which appear to be very difficult to answer with anything like complete confidence.

  • Matilda, - I have only just now found the post with more info and pictures from you! I do think the piece is Moroccan, but not terribly early, though it does have some age on it. What I feel VERY confident about is that you should NOT change it in any  way, for it has its own integrity, and is far too good to interfere with. - Next bit: I see that meanwhile Sarah has identified the piece as to locale, which is great. And I would like to explain that when I wrote my previous post you were obviously writing your own at the same time, so that I did not see that prior to posting independently! That happens quite a bit, of course. Good luck. You have a nice piece there.

  • Hello Joost! Thank you for the comment. I agree, I no longer have any intention of altering the headdress in any way. I really appreciate the input! I'm glad I joined this site before doing anything to it :)
