  • Ait, I have a necklace just like this one -- we had a big discussion on it because nobody thought that it was Kabyle! I am so happy to see that I was right!

  • it is 100% kabyl from beni yenni. they were made until arround 1960.and are all silver. i was looking after since longer. only this i trip, i could get it from a collector

  • Patty- I remember that discussion well, and the search for evidence of photos of a similar necklace type. This is exciting. Ait, what a delicate and elegant piece! Great find!

  • It reminds me of a charm bracelet we had when we were a child, very nice.

  • https://ethnicjewels.ning.com/photo/algerian-silver-necklace/ Here is my much contested necklace.

  • this was a recent kabyl jewelry.we can see the frnech ( eurpean ) influence throw the smith technic that is not typical to northafrica.hole and press technic is machine assisted what is not kabylsmith work.

during the short time i had this trip in the kabylie and in the half hour i had with a collector, i could inderstand that this jewelry was made beggining 1900 until 1960.made from ath yenni until the coast passing throw few mountains.we can see the elements of shell and oak confirming it ( from ath yenni until tizi ouzou, there is a big oak forest ) because of hearts pendents, this necklace was called  heart chaine .the pendents with small chains are french/european added to the local environements and jewelry. i know from my own mother that this kind of jewelry was not worn in all kabylie, it is the raison why there is not a lot of and so rare now.
