Forehead/chest ornament. From NW Anatolia, late-Ottoman. Private collection, Turkey.

‘Alınlık’ (= ‘for the forehead’). Jewel to be fastened on the front of a woman’s cap (or on a turban-like headscarf) by means of the three hooks (one in the center, and one on each end). From northwestern Anatolia, rural style, late-Ottoman, ca. early 20th century. Silver alloy and glass paste stones. Can/could also be used as a chest ornament. (Private collection of Tekin Uludoğan, Balıkesir).
