Lybian. Silver. Known as Hauafer horseshoe. This one is probably a Zurraga Ummagiain as it is decorated in both sides.
Interesting, I did not see a two sided one untill now.
Lovely! I have recently been offered a very similar piece (also decorated on both sides). However, I must confess that I know next to nothing about these pendants apart from some info and would appreciate some advice.
Hello Betty
it is a pendant , worn alone if it is big ( see my fotos) or 5, mostly 3 bigger than the 2 other ones.
i saw some necklaces with 7 pendats too.
typical northafrica ethnic jewelry. they have other names as salhat oder sfayeh.
they are worn as protection and luck talismans
Thanks very much Ait! I have heard the term salhat or salhayat (for the plural, I think?) before. I also read that they are given to mothers on the birth of a child...
The one I've been offered is quite large about 10 cm in length and seems to have a Tunisian stamp. Any ideas what would be a reasonable price?
