  • Is this not Yemen, Franky? And I suppose not for a child, even when the inside is just a 5 cm they are for adult woman.

  • You could be right, Harald. Though I have seen such bracelets described as Egyptian. I know the bedouin women can have slender, smaller hands.

i may have fallen into the trap of assuming that theorigin was the same as the other bedouin silver bracelet I`ve shown. I`ve definitely seen bigger and more skilfully worked, of a similar shape, described by someone knowledgeable in the field as being from Egypt. I obtained them both from the same source - a private person rather than a trader.

This is the more skilfully executed of the two in what may well be 925 silver.

  • I have also seen them for sale in Egypt. There is a lot of Yemen jewelry in Egypt. They try to sell it as Egyptian. May be because there is so little Egyptian ethnic jewelry around any more.

  • Quite funny really - I`ve just discovered that this and the following bracelet are half of a set of napkin rings made by Jawahir Jewellers Oman, who deal with Tiffany and De Beer items as well as many other up market jewellers, making their own jewellery, too. There is a secondhand set being offered online for $999.00 !!

  • Interesting Frankie. May I ask how you found out that this is a napkin ring?

I've seen sets of 6 napkin rings, in the design of various Omani bangles on offer online as well.

  • Preethi, have a look at eBay no. 390609768401. Maybe there was originally six in the box.

  • Yes, this is the sort of thing I've seen. Perhaps the ebay item is just a set of 4, but there are some of 6 as well. No measurements of the rings though - did you check with the seller?

  • No, I haven`t checked with the seller but it just seems so likely. They were both from the same source advertised as children`s bracelets, which is indeed how they could be used.
