this picture to show the different stages of ages and disposion to the sun. (I have these beads already since the 1970 and they have been in the cupboard since than so no exposure to light.

    How long do they take to get as dark as the beads on the left?

  • I go with Betty, very interesting, I did not know that they become dark just by the sun!

  • The coloring from light to the darker yello, is about 20 yrs. and the darkest(almost black in real) I take it to be near to a 100 yrs. This of course when exposed to the sun and heat of the skin.  And as these beads were and are worn as a protective that means daily and not kept stored like with me as a collector.

  • Thank you Ingrid! This is very interesting, and I think that the beads get more beautiful with age.

  • That is right Charlotte, of course, they have to be used to get the lovely patina, because it is the heat of the skin and sun which darkens it. Gr. Ingird.
