Lovely creation, could you tell us more about it? We only have a little info about Chinese things on this site.
Hi Patricia
I’m just an amateur collector with very limited knowledge in Chinese jewellery. This pendant would originally have been set on a torque with connecting chains, and the small pendants hanging from the hoofs would also have been set on chains. The pendant is made in front repoussé work with nice details.
The qilin is a mythological creature with parts of different animals (a dragons head, body with fish scales and hoofs), often depicted with a rider. It symbolizes a benevolent creature bringing prosperity and serenity.
