Chapraz (one half)

Some shining beauty on a glum and depressing day. One half of a Teke Turkmen coat fastener, called Chapraz. According to Schletzer's "Alter Silberschmuck der Turkmenen" (p.133) it might be from Achal Oasis. Measures 11.5 x 16.5cm, silver, partially gilded and glass.

  • Thank you for posting this capraz, Betty. It's wonderful how a beautiful piece of jewellery can lift the spirits on an overcast afternoon in November. Congratulations.

  • Thank you Thelma, it's my first piece of Turkmen jewelry apart from a very old Ersari (?) cuff.

  • hello Betty, what a lovely start to your turkomen collection, especially how nice the glass looks, almost like carnelian, are you sure that it is glass? my few smaller pieces are so obviously glass or resin, plus the gilding is very fine, all in all, a lovely piece! congratulations, warm regards, zhanna

  • Many thanks, Zhanna. I assumed the stones are glass rather than carnelian because of their clear and regular color, but I will have a look again... :). I very much enjoy wearing this piece!

  • Dear Betty; This is a beautiful piece. I especially like its shape and the openings - very nice indeed. With kind regards. Peter

  • Thank you, Peter. All the best, Betty
