  • This is amazing ... so old and from a place I had never heard of ... Republic of Buriatia. I looked it up on Google Maps ... north of Outer Mongolia, so remote, so sparsely populated. Is there a reference for the gau anywhere?

  • Beautiful and so semetric.

  • Hi Thelma,  I have several books on Mongolian jewelry that have images of like pieces. Some of these are used three in a row depending.  Jewelry from this region is fairly hard to find!  The way in which this is made gilt over bronze and the style of the metal work are indications of the time period it was made.

  • nice   monglian  thing~this  kind  of  style   woman  use  on  head

  • No this is not a head ornament.  It is for prayers and used in a group with others either worn individually or attached. See photos2506020147?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024

  • wooow   thax    linda!

  • What a beautiful and skillfully made piece of jewellery, also the band with its turquois and lapis plaques.

You know the people in the groupfoto look exactly like the people from the movie of Brad Pitt,Seven Years in Tibet, their costumes and jewellery look just like that.

  • I'll have to see photo again, don't remember the specifics.  I didn't like him in it though but I liked the movie.. !

  • Linda, you are right, his role was a bit dull, but I fully enjoyed the costumes of the people what is of course, understandable we lovers of ethnic jewellery and clothing. Gr.Ingrid.
