Traditional bridal/festive costume from Trakya/Thrace. The large ‘şalvar’ (baggy pants) and the ‘yelek’ (sleeveless vest/bodice) are embroidered in the so-called ‘Rumeli’ style, 1925-1950. This style of costume is still used (without the apron) in some Turkish villages of northeastern Bulgaria. (Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).

The front of the bodice and the bead work necklace are decorated with chest ornaments composed of imitation coins and pieces of clove, which is used because of its pleasant smell, that is symbolically transferred to the bearer (generally a bride).
