Bracelet from Timor

A lovely, old silver bracelet from Timor. It seems to have had its original shape altered a bit, probably to fit more comfortably on a Western wrist. The top "mushroom" portion functions as a rattle.

  • In practice these were often not worn on the wrist - though they could be! - but were held by the fingers when dancing, particularly because they rattled. A nice, typical example, Hillary. See also my wife Truus's book, p. 197 with two shown - one of them very similar to yours.
