Bird and Flower

This is another flea market find which is reminiscent of the Multan (style) rings. However, they usually have a finer pattern, whereas the bird and flower motif on this ring are rather bold.Enamel on (silver-plated?) metal.I'd be happy about any more information.

  • I don't know what it is, but it is quite attractive!  On many Multan pieces, the silver and enamel are ground down together to make a flat surface.  To me, this ring resembles that technique.  If it is manufactured this way, I think it is unlikely to be plated.  However, some Multan work is 50/50 silver and brass, or just brass. 

  • Thanks for your comment Lynn. The reason I think it is plated is that the plating has worn off on the back of the ring. Otherwise I agree with you. The technique looks very Multan. Enamel and metal are on one level. 

  • What a beauty Betty - nicely executed and a lovely deep rich blue. The pattern - the silver rim, the lines linking the different elements - look Multani to me.
