I tried to determine, but so difficult ! it's a little "sticky" ....
There are ways to test for true amber. I have never done it myself , but there are a number of internet sites which can help you with this. From the looks of this, it looks like copal to me, which is no big deal since North Africans like and use lots of different forms of amber. That fibula, actually, really fascinates me and is, to me , the most important part of the discussion. Do you have any idea of its origin? I also love that old chain.
I tried the "hot water" test, and ... I don't remember ! bought it several years ago, and I alternate "Ethnic jewelry" (intensive) periods, with "modern/contemporary jewelry" (so intensive ones ! ;-) didn't have "Ethnic jewelry" period since a long time, so forgot a lot of what I knew (names of pieces, origins ...) 6
an yes, when I bought it I was quite intigate by the work of the chain (it is very particular, so should be quite easy to recognize it) and by the fibula .... the seller had no idea, and I let the piece "as is", without cleaning it .... (I don't like shiny jewelry ... love patina !) .... and if I did any searches, forgot them ! :-(
I can see similar chains in the book "Bedoin jewellery" by Heather colyer Ross (p99, 91, 41...) .... ?

it looks for me that this chaine is not originaly made in that way.
fibulas are not originaly used as necklaces, to dangerous .
the amber / copal. loks copal to me ( i m not 100 % sure. it needs tests )
the half round beads between the amber/copal pieces, i know them maroccan pieces.
interesting piece. l can guess that someone used nice differents parts of jewelry to make this beatiful necklace

I don't think its amber. The necklace looks moroccan to me, even the chain. I had some similar chains , not in silver,from Marrakech. I don't recognize the fibula.

Thanks for your opinions, on this mysterious necklace ! I made some searches on chains (can see similar ones), made some searches on fibulas, but, here, did'n t see anything similar .....
