This strikes me as very similar to another I previously posted...
Ayis thought these were made in North Africa for the foreign community. I think this pin so similar, it may also have been made as a type of souvenir. Does anyone else have an opinion about this???
I'm sorry that I cannot be of help regarding your question, Edith. But it's a delightful piece, and the stones do look real turquoise to me, too.
hence the crab hallamark....
at first i thought that it is a jewel imported from north africa but it may very well originates from france as a reminder of the celtic brooch and eventually came to a second life when french came to north africa...in contact with local fibulas they unearthed an old jewel of them.......
please note that those with the least work on the omega are possibly those with the least tieq to north africa
Thanks so much for the information Ayis! So, this could be French! How interesting! Frankly, I really could not read the hallmark (I can only discern that there is a depression), but I have not seen many French hallmarks. The banding on the omega does remind me of some Tunisian ones, but this piece does not really strike me as Tunisian. I guess for now this piece remains a mystery...
