  • those glass beads are recently made in India
  • Yes as I noted in my description recently made "trade beads". They are from India I think or also maybe China.
The other metal beads are forged beads made by the Tamaschek or tuareg in Mali.
    Enjoy,
    Ann
  • On further thought these probably are from India as I purchased the piece in Mopti in late 1994.
more recently they could more likely be from China. I remember this piece well because I wore it home and customs in Singapore wanted to cut it in half. I had trouble understanding until later when someone mentioned drugs! I pleaded with them to find a Jeweller to do it carefully and they finally relented and let me catch my flight.
  • What a story, so it was not cut in half in search of drugs? Lucky! Today, they would probably use dogs to sniffle at it, and so avoid the terrible thought of cutting it before being sure... A wonderful, nice piece! It is very similar to the one I just bought recently from an "amazigh" (Tuareg shop), but mine is missing the triangle pendants on the bottom.
  • I don't think this is particularly old but it is nice and I was very happy to find it when I did because they were difficult to find.
