  • I have a strand like this. I was told they are from Ethiopia and are prayer beads.

  • Thanks Toya, That makes sense. They looked Yemeni to me, but I was puzzled by the number of beads, which rules out an Islamic prayer bead strand. Ethiopian prayer beads would fit. Thanks again for the help.

  • Looks nice and weathered and very tactile..........Amber?

  • this is an islamic prayer beads necklace , called musbaha from Ethiopia. they look silver with the soldering of a lesser material. Many are made of nickel. Mostly the beads are badly damaged. At the end an large tassel made of silk thread should have been there. The yellow beads could be amber, plastic or copal.

  • The combo of old metal and amber is very lovely, they look well used and well loved.

  • Thanks Pattie and Ingrid for your comments. It is quite weathered and I like that. The yellow beads are plastic rather than amber or copal.

  • Nice item- I like your Expression "weathered", that is a good way of Expression.  I like that too (when one can see the traces of time and wearing).
