  • You are right, I mistakenly thought you were talking about the piece being used as a default image at the headline everywhere on the Forum: my membership is too recent!
  • Veet, i beg to differ, no such thing is photographed on that book.

And i have the book between my hands right now!!

I think you have posted on the wrong section.

  • You will find a similar piece photographed on page 189 of A. Fisher's Africa Adorned.

Worn by Bella women, in Nigeria.

  • Thank you Ayis, I purchased to an antique dealer in Ispahan. The medal was at home in a box with many small things. He received it long time ago and did'nt remember...maybe zoroastrian, but maybe only...Bertrand
  • Old it is for sure.

No arabic letters or numbers that i can recognize.

Some of the signs used remind  me of some old antique middle eastern alphabet but i can't clearly remember wich one

The use of figuratifs sunch as an animated sun and an athropomorphic doll is a sign of a non islamic culture or at most a syncretic islamic culture ( but shiia were tolerant towards that)

My guess could be any of the middle east/caucasus/central asia religious minorities

Bear in mind that there are also tens and tens of secret, magical and kabbala-like alphabets that were developped through the ages, most of them are unkwon and have never been studied or published

PS/ where is iran did you purchased it ? what kind of shop? what did the seller tell you?
