  • thank you all.

it is with thin silver sheet but it doesnt look silver, the red hat and other cloth are with silver

Please see page 136 of Marjorie Ransom book the tunic is cotton with , silver and silk thread embroidry from Northern Tihamma

  • This is very nice Rabah. I love the shine of the cotton - it looks rich. With kind regards. Peter

  • Hi Ait,Love this dress especially the embroidery, Peter comments on the shine of the cotton, but I do think it is silk, because also in Ethiopia, the national dress of the Hadarre ladies  (Harrar town) do have a very simular wear, with the trousers of velvet and embroidered on the bottom and the dress tunis, is always heavy silk in dark colors, such as black or darm purple or very dark green.  So what is the material in this case Ait?  Gr. Ingrid.

  • thank you  all for your kind comments

i have to start first with what i couldnt understand the first moment i had both of the dresses in hand. i know them from fotos, books, documentary ..... but the first moment i had the both dark dresses, and saw the samples i felt a deeep connection to the samples, its like i knew them a while ago and soudainly i see them again, i dont know how to make a description.so, its both, cotton and silk. peter is one of the best when it comes to yemen and omani items, and ingrid also as well as ofcourse ethiopia and horn of africa.

i m still occupated with the patterns and trying to understand the meanings, any help is welcome
