Ethnic Jewels

An appreciation of ethnic jewellery and adornment

This is an extraordinary, very long necklace in good silver. The pendant is an openable box, where prayers or items with amuletic power would have been kept.

Very nice piece! It is the first time I see a saudi necklace like this. Congrats! Leonor

Dear Thelma; The chain is typical for this region. The necklace with the many bells has the same type of chain, just simpler. With kind regards. Peter

Dear Thelma; Many thanks for your message. I agree with you, the chain is very special. It is of a good silver and quite fine with nice chiseled decorations on it. The entire piece is heavy. It looks very elegant. I know that this beauty belonged most probably to a Bedouin lady. However, to me this necklace could have even been worn by a lady from the city. With kind regards. Peter

Another noisy one, Peter. Did you manage to have a quiet journey home? The chain interests me. Have you seen chains like this on other Saudi pieces?
