Mystery pendant

A small find: agate bead (drilled) with a silver fitting. I assume it is from Iran, but that is just a guess. Other opinions are welcome...

  • Hi Betty. This looks as if it might be a particularly loved or valuable stone to be set in silver like this. Do you know what it is?

  • Unfortunately, I have no idea what it is exactly, Thelma. It was sold together with some other small pendants some of which looked distinctively Persian. The stone is a stone bead (one can only see the holes when you move the bead in its setting) and it looks like a banded Persian agate bead to me, but I am no expert regarding stones... Both the bead and the silver are quite worn. That's what I liked about it :-)

  • Iran makes totally sense, they were and still are fanatics of silver capped semi precious stones worn as amulets....a tradition widely shared by other shia muslims from around the whole subregion such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, M.E...

    A very nice little charm

  • Thanks for the interesting information Alaa!
