Headgear – Urfa province /Turkey.

Traditional bridal/festive headgear from the Urfa province. Upper part: silver ‘tepelik’ (hat cover) and plates in alpaka (nickel silver); side parts: small (partly gild) silver plates; turquoise, chains, late-Ottoman silver & copper coins; imitation-hair in ‘ibrişim’ (thick black silk threads); decorative jewel on the back. Recomposed with predominantly antique material (ca. 1900). Used by both Kurds and Arabs. (Inv.nr. ba$016 - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
