Hair Comb - West Papua

This item was used by the Kamoro tribe of West Papua, Indonesia. In the Kamoro language it is called "Etae". The Kamoro are related to the Asmat tribe. They are known for the wood carving skills, and until recently such items were carved using stone tools. Metal tools are now imported into the region, and the Kamoro have used them to create more intricate carving styles. I love the simple lines of this piece. It has been previously used and was not made for tourists.
