Lovely photograph.. and impressive jewelry.But must be quite heavy...no wonder she looks a little sad!
@ Chantal: In traditional rural Turkish culture, the bride is expected to avoid any sign of joy during the wedding ceremonies (which generally last for several days), expressing in this way her sadness of leaving her parental home. (Since she will join her husband at his parents' home). Other rites around this separation are seen in the 'henne night' (gathering of women, the evening before the wedding) when women sing many sad and melancholic songs, or (in some villages, on the wedding day's morning) the ritual 'abduction' of the bride by the friends of the bridegroom, but not after the male relatives of the bride demonstrated strong (likewise ritual) resistance.
