I love this! Can you tell us more about this bracelet please?
I bought this bracelet about 30 years ago from an antique dealer in Australia as an African piece and always doubted that origin.
I`m not sure but I think this bracelet is a Hindu Indian Shaivite ascetic bangle worn as a bracelet or armlet. It was made in the lost wax casting method in brass/bronze and it must be- according to the wear signs and smoothness- well over a hundred years old according to Oppi Untracht ` Traditional Jewelry of India` (see number 548).
Does anybody knows more about it?
I would not reject Africa .... these types of head shapes, round with very prominent round eyes and mouth/lips are often found on jewellery pieces in Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast, among the Senufo, Lobi and Gan people, among others. Perhaps you could take a photo where we can see some of the heads in more detail, for example the ones on the left of the photo where you can see the profile a bit. Is it just heads, or are there also some that look like little animals (rat/rabbit like, is suppose would be the best description of these animals)?
Thank you Zambesi. I have only been a member for 2 days but I will take some close ups soon.
This is very exciting.
