Great and nicely worn leathe, Peter.
Very impressive, Peter - I especially love the read leather! I can't remember having seem such complete and well-preserved pieces often. Can you wear them? Kind regards, Betty
Dear Jose and Betty; Many thanks for your comments. Well, I probably could have worn them when I was 18 years or so but unfortunately not anymore... the time took its toll! With kind regards. Peter
... well, sadly this is the case with many ethnic belts.... And I suppose, if you could wear them, you might get some funny looks :) Kind regards, Betty
These could be women’s belts, part of an old traditional festive costume (1925-1950) from the Turkish Alevi villages in the northern part of the Burgas province (Bulgaria), among others Dobra Polyana village (named 'Orhan Selim' by the Turks). I have a similar belt in my collection (picture added), which was purchased together with the whole costume, in Bursa (April 1990), shortly after northwestern Turkey had been flooded with Muslim refugees (Turks & Pomaks) from Bulgaria.
Best greetings, JMC.
