Animal ring 3

I think this might be a (not very old) Dogon equestrian ring, but I am not sure. Maybe someone can help?

  • I would be  very grateful if someone could help identifying this and the two other rings I posted. Thanks a lot!

  • I have a similar one, which is a Dogon ring.  The head of the rider is typical for Dogon figures, and so is the horse, but the head of the rider is very typical Dogon.

  •  Betty,Lovely, but cannot help you except on my previous comment on the bird ring.

    Gr. Ingrid.

  • Dear Eva, many thanks - in fact, I remembered your ring and the 2 statues and would therefore also say Dogon, but I was not sure, as other groups, too, have the rider symbolism. So the hint with the head, was very helpful. I imagine , it's perhaps meant to be some sort of a helmet?

  • ... I almost forgot to say: I missed you! Hope you've had a successful time hunting for lovely pictures!

  • 2506015508?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024this is a Dogon Equestrian bronze figure and a Dogon equestrian ring bought in Mali. Sometimes they differ a Little in style, but the form of the head of the rider is typically Dogon.

  • Thank you, Eva. I love both, your large and your small rider. Looking closely at the figure of the large one, I can detect a saddle bag with a coiled shaped. My horse sports similar ornaments, I first thought it was a kind of harness...

  • Of course, I cannot swear by 100 % that it is Dogon, but as I said, it is the form of the head, which I have seen many times in Dogon equestrians. I know, there are other People, also the Bamana have equestrians, etc...... but they are different in style. I leave 3 % open -
