Thanks for your comment about this ring. I bought this ring in the bead market in Nouackchott, Mauritania in the early 1980s. I was told by the ladies in the market that it was Tuareg, Maybe I need to do some research on it.
I have found a photo of a similar ring to this one...much newer than my example....It is on page 220 of Africa Adorned. The photo is of the hands and feet of a Guedra dancer in Mauritania. The design is the same but details are slightly different.
Thanks for your comment, I think you are right, Dayna, its not a classic Tuareg ring, more Mauritanian with its granulation
