Beautiful items! I have travelled with two Mauritanian desert leaders from Timbuktu (Mali, border to Mauritania) into the desert, 10 days on camels. I got some so-called "gris gris" made on the spot by Mauritanian women for us ladies, made of coulered goatskin and little parts of mirrors, to protect us against the djins (bad spirits mainly active in the desert). I still have them and appreciate them. Actually, in Timbuktu there is almost more Mauritanian culture than Malian, apart from Tuareg. Such a pity that Timbuktu was conquered by Islamists later on who detroyed many old buildings of world cultural heritage, besides what they did to some local people(stoning, cutting of limbs (e.g. a young boy because he smoked,etc.).I do not know how Timbuktu is today, the people I lived with and traveled with, had left Timbuktu and went to Mauritania. I wish I had then searched for some of the wonderful Mauritanian beads, but at that time I only collected Tuareg items.
really nice little film! The beads get more and difficult to find every year, especially the aggrabs..
