  this is definetely not a collar.

   

  This is a crescent shaped fibula from south tunisia or North west Libya (Tripolitania), It only lacks the pin common to other fibulas.

   

  toya have recently posted a beautiful old photograph a woman wearing this particular fibula, that you could find here (focus on both shoulders)

  Ah ha, I was thinking that this was a fibula without the pin.  I did notice it in Toya's post of the old photo.  It weights 185 grams; is that common?  I was asking about collars/ pectorals because I had never seen nor heard of them before, so the one above seemed quite a mystery.  I do not own it and don't have the dimensions, so I am at a bit of a loss as to the size.  I always like to post photos with a ruler for good measure (pun entirely intended).

  weight is normal, the parisian "quai branly" museum of tribal arts has on that weighs 192gram.

   

  The oen you posted seems to be a big example of its kind.

   

  There is no collar of that type (rigid) in Tunisia
