Could it be a hairpiece? it looks very nice, you have a lovely collection!
hi, no i don't believe it's a hairpiece. i've seen similar pendants being worn in pairs on each shoulder in a mongolian book, but the use of coloured glass is not typical mongolian. use of coloured glass does occur among the turkic peoples. the dealer sourced it in chinese turkestan/xinjiang where the different (turkic and mongoloid) tribes live close to each other so it is plausibe they borrowed each others styles. considering this, i believe it was worn by a kazakh woman, but sure i can never be. possibly it was worn as a waist ornament, so you can hook it on a belt. i've seen similar ornaments in chinese books described as waist decoration. just like my silver and blue enamel snuff tobacco pendant i also posted on this site.
