Large Libyan Cuff

This is a Libyan cuff from Tripoli I had until recently. It was very large and heavy. It has a couple of stamps on it, one I believe may be the silver content? And one looks like a hallmark. I don't know if that would give any identity or information about this item. If anyone knows if the hallmark means anything, I would appreciate any information you could pass along.

  • This is a Libyan hallmark.  Lovely bracelet...it was made in Tripoli before the Gaddafi era.

  •  I agree with Edith on the origin of this cuff. This hallmark is marking Tripoli-Libya. The 800 no.may indicate the silver content. The Tripoli silver cuffs are usually 900 but the number is only shown on the side bar which is usually fixed on the main cuff which is a sheet of silver before being engraved and shaped. Then the side silver bars usually fixed on it .

This type of cuff is locally called ' Deblej Mnaffel'. It may have been used in Siwa as through history there is  cultural  exchange and sometimes  the type of silver worn in Libya and Western Egypt especially SIWA are similar.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece which is very attractive.

  • I show here a similar cuff that was purchased from Tripoli with similar hall mark and quite similar design as well . This is just to give you an idea for comparison. Thanking you again for sharing your beautiful cuff.2506046645?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024
