  • so vibrant!
  • Seriously delicious. Can I ask if you know more about its origins, like who or where?

I've never seen one like this before.

  • Hi all. Many thanks for the nice comments. @Cam:

This type is just one of many styles of head ornaments worn in Ladakh by women, although this type is more unusual. I have seen photos of women wearing it with the tongue/flap facing forward or and some wearing it as a real hat so the flap is at the back of the head.  Check the links to see more examples.

Unfortunately, I have never visited Ladakh but would love to do so some time in the future.

Oh for those interested. it's for sale!

  • Thanks, I may have seen these before, but worn forward I would have mistaken it for the larger Perak. (I have a weakness for Ladakhi Turquoise, but alas, I'm sure I can't afford it!)

The second link was also interesting, if you look at the coral Yemini neck (it wouldn't enlarge) but it looks very much like a Tajik "wedding" necklace as discussed at length on this site!

  • A variant of a perak, in essence. As you say, Howah, there are several variants, for sure.
