Traditional festive costume from the Silivri district (West of Istanbul, Trakya/Thrace). Turkish, 1900-1925. The velvet ‘cepken’ (long-sleeved vest) & ‘şalvar’ (baggy trousers) are adorned with ‘goldwork’ embroidery in ‘Maraş işi’-technique. The circular sunflower-like motif on the vest bears a star & crescent design (= Turkish flag) in its center. (Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
