Thank you for that information.  Very interesting. Yes, I was wondering about the mark on her chin and if it had a particular meaning.  She looks a bit sad in that picture and the lines under her eyes add to that effect in that moment.

These are part saffron (cheeks) and part "harqus" (elsewhere on the face): a special make up made by burning organic material

There is also a permanant tatoo i guess on the chin

The lips are blackened by constantly chewing walnut-tree bark

Nice old photos but there was one odd thing, a Akha hat from Thailand was inserted in the reel by mistake.
