An appreciation of ethnic jewellery and adornment

To those interested in buying my wife Truus Daalder's *Ethnic Jewellery and Adornment*

Several members of "Ethnic Jewels" have bought copies of my wife Truus Daalder's *Ethnic Jewellery and Adornment*, which I am helping her to sell. For those wishing to know more, a few comments. We now have only a very limited number of copies left for direct sale from us. Unfortunately we cannot, for a single copy, compete against Amazon.com outside Australia. Amazon sells the book at a very reasonable price - usually around USD$150, although currently it is just over $141, which represents great value indeed. Their room to move the price down further is inherently limited by the fact that the Australian dollar is very strong. Those wishing to buy a minimum of THREE COPIES at a wholesale price from us can do so very advantageously: please write to us, which is best done by going to our website for the book at http://www.ethnicartpress.com.au, and we can then give you a quote. Several people here have been very happy to buy this way. But for a single copy we would advise buying from Amazon (which is supplied by our fellow-publisher Macmillan). Thank you for reading this notice. I add, finally, that the book was produced for love, not money. We found it worth doing, but as a way of sharing an interest and passion with others - not as a commercial venture. And that is the honest truth! With best wishes, - Joost Daalder

We bought this piece from Tadema in London in 1994. I beleve is correct name is "Les cigales", but otherwise the name is close. It cost us roughly US$10,000. Much more recently we bought, in Sydney, "Semi de marguerites", at $2000, whch did not seem dear, allthough Lalique is popular in Australia - but the buyers are mean! The "Cigales" are amber in colour, and the other one is a fairly light blue. We don't want to sell, thanks. Best wishes! - Joost

Dear Joost Daalder, being a young collectioner of Rene Lalique's (glass)work, the Internet has become my working tool. I apologize in advance by stubbing in, but I happen to stumble upon your conversation on this site. You made a remark about a Lalique brooch you own(ed) I am very much interested in these kind of pieces. If its for sale, please let me know. I am currently writing a PHD about Lalique at Leyde University and research famliy histories of clients of Lalique in the Netherlands. There are wonderfull stories to tell. My best regards, Lennart
