Ethnic Jewels

An appreciation of ethnic jewellery and adornment

For those who's interest journeys beyond jewelry, here is a lovely website that explores weaving and rugmaking traditions (as well as tie-dyed veils) of Morocco.  A very refreshing site with many examples of older pieces.

Dear Hillary, today I got the blue  Batik shawl from Layoune, bought via Ebay. It is really beautiful, and I fell in love with it! It's wonderful to wear it in summer and  I love its colours! It is the kind of stuff the women in Mali also wear, I am delighted.  Just wanted to let you know somehow away from Ebay, thanks a lot, Eva

Wonderful exhibition, Moroccan rugs are so distinctive, almost primitive. I see there is also an article about berber veils on this site and that also interests me as they are becoming, both in original and obvious reproduction ,quite abundant in the shops. It certainly is a good time to examine and buy some of them. Found especially distinctive ones in Essouaria and Tarradoudant.
