Antique Amber Beads from Mali

We've just listed several lots of antique amber beads from Mali on eBay (US site).  It's a good reference for genuine amber beads.  One even has traces of henna that was used to dye the bead.  I'll follow up with photos of many more strands of both Moroccan and Malian amber, including some rare repaired beads, once we unpack from the show.  Here's the link:

collector emptor- "Turkmen Jewelry" book, Layla Diba

'Scholarship' is an unfortunate term to use in reviewing this book. The examples include many that are loosely dated, made for the gullible collector's market, or bear fake patinas. Some of the descriptions are just flat-out wrong, for example, pressed  red glass pieces with islamic inscriptions that were manufactured in Europe identified as 'carnelian'.It is certain that more experienced collectors are going to be commenting on this book and wondering why an institution like the MET would…
