"Thank you very much, Joost. They are superb pieces. It amazes me how they could manage to use them as anklets as they seem not to open much and there is no hinge."

"Hi Jose, - I have sent you a photo of a pair we have. It can also easily be found among my photos. They are very similar to your piece here, and came from Linda Pastorino. We live with our pair every day."

"I share what seems to be the consensus view that the piece was made recently, but is very much worth having. One reason why I'd keep it is that it is interesting to have this design - refreshing to see after countless enamelled tabzimts and…"

Book of Siwa Oasis

Posted on October 15, 2012 at 17:48 1 Comment

For those of you who have an interest and do not know it already there is a fairly new book on Siwa Oasis. It was published in 2011 by the name of "Sand and Silver. Jewellery, Costume and Life in Siwa Oasis" ISBN 978-0-9569963-0-5. Its author is Margaret Mary Vale and it was published by Kelim Press. It is soft cover.

It is not certainly a "bible" on jewellery but covers many aspects of the life in the oasis of Siwa (customs, uses, how life has changed, jewellery, materials, etc)…

Jewellery from Eastern Africa.

For those members who have an interest in jewellery from Eastern Africa or simply enjoy wonderful pictures, both of pieces and people, I would recommend this link: www.davidserra.es. The catalog on this kind of jewellery, which can be downloaded, is particularly good.
