  • Silver over copper. 19 x 21 mm.  Photo from ebay.  I'm curious to see it "in person" when it arrives.

  • This is a gorgeous piece. I can only imagine how the entire necklace must have looked like.... Congratulations. Peter

  • Peter, I'm so surprised no one bid or was even watching this bead?!  Here is another view of it, also from ebay. I bought it for under one USD.  Maybe everyone is in the souk and enjoying being immersed in the gorgeousness of innumerable objects there. :>)

  • Dear Anjali; Sometimes, the sellers are listing items with a not so common description and therefore, they are not popping up when searching. I bought once an antique filigree necklace with matching bracelet, which were separately listed, for very very little money. There too, nobody was bidding for it. Later, a dealer in Jerusalem offered me 4,500 USD for the necklace only. I of course did not sell it... A great find Anjali - I know that you will cherish it! Regards. Peter

Dear Anjali, I have just spotted this necklace on Etsy - the seller has identified them as Himachal Pradesh beads, just to add to the mystery.

I also spotted your bead on ebay and was watching it although I did not bid on it. It is a curious bead.

  • Here is a link to the listing - I hope that it is ok to post it?

  • Dear Charlotte, it was so sweet of you to offer this additional information and the link.  I really appreciate it.  They do look almost identical to the ebay bead identified as Yemeni - except that the ones on etsy look to have slightly larger collars.  I think I'll send the picture of "my" bead to Marjorie Ransom who is so knowledgeable about Yemeni work and maybe she'll have time to provide some insight.  If she does, I'll post it here.

  • Hi Charlotte, I just heard back from Marjorie. She assumes the bead is from Himachal Pradesh because although the granulation is very similar to that done in Yemen, the design and the shape are not Yemeni.  She is checking with her contact in Yemen and will let me know if he differs.

  • Dear Anjali, thank you for the update! I love the granulation on your bead - such a lot of work went into it.
  • Yes, so much work!

I just watched Part I of your video of the artist making the Tagmout bead.  Wonderful.  And I feel the same as Ingrid.  I hope there is a part two. Thanks for posting.
